In early June I wrote a post about the preparations and the promotion for my exhibition in the Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely. Strangely to me it is coming to an end soon (June 27) so I thought I needed to post some pictures of how the exhibition actually looks.
There was only one change in the layout I had planned. Army Dreamer (at right in the photo above) was going to be on the wall directly opposite but when I saw the wall there was a lot of cabling on it that doesn’t show up in the floor plans. Climbing (at left in the photo above) is one of the two paintings that my husband stretched for me last March.
The gallery space upstairs (also where stage light and sound is controlled for other events) is very spacious and bright.
As a balcony gallery there is still plenty of room to walk around and one can look across the railings to get some distance from the large works on the opposite wall.
I planned the layout so that the smaller pieces allowed for both intimacy and space to view.
The large paintings upstairs can be seen from the gallery downstairs and likewise the large paintings downstairs are visible from the balcony rails.
Since other staged events take place at the centre, curiosity about the work upstairs can happen easily and naturally.
I greatly appreciated that well-known painter Eamon Colman (Aosdana member) launched my exhibition. As well as saying some very kind words about my work, Eamon led people on an exhibition tour, picking out some key works for further discussion. I have never experienced this before at a launch and am truly grateful to Eamon for making the event so unique and very special.
Eamon spoke about both the formal and emotional qualities of my work, while also anecdotally musing on his own reactions to the work. Lost Moments continues at the Courthouse Arts Centre until June 27.
