Well that year went by very quickly — it seems like yesterday that I was taking down this show from Pearse Museum (June 23 2025!), which I posted about quite a lot (do a search on this site). So now the exhibition is getting a second outing at The Courthouse in Tinahely. It’s nice to be showing work in my home county (Wicklow). The invitation was sent out digitally via MailChimp (Courthouse mailing list) and email (my own mailing list).
In getting ready for the show, I knew I needed more folders printed as the exhibition at Pearse Museum had gone on for three months and there were no leftovers. At the time that I was getting the folder designed, the exact dates of the two exhibitions was unknown, so I didn’t include them on the cover. When preparing for the Tinahely show I decided to update the front cover to include the two venues with their dates.
The night before we were to bring down the work to be installed at the Courthouse, the forecast called for rain the next day, so my husband loaded up the car. As it happened, the sun was shining but that meant we just needed to be seated in the vehicle the next morning and be on our way for the drive, which is just over an hour.
Like Pearse, The Courthouse also has two separate exhibition spaces — upstairs and downstairs — but the spaces are visible to each other. With a trusty floorplan, I was able to plan the exhibition in advance of the installation.
When we arrived at the arts centre, we simply had to unpack the various works, which I had already labelled with numbers and whether they were going upstairs or downstairs.
In the downstairs plan I included Snowman, a painting from 2013 that was only stretched in February this year, so wasn’t included in the Pearse exhibition.
Upstairs I had planned that the larger paintings would be visible from downstairs.
As at Pearse, I grouped images together as they complemented each other horizontally and vertically.
I took the locations of radiators into account when deciding where the larger canvases would go.
I was delighted to see that Courthouse had put basic information on the front page of its quarterly information brochure.
The Courthouse also produces a monthly “What’s On” flyer, so it was great to see this additional bit of promotion for my exhibition.
